Learning support is accessible to all students at Erasmus Darwin Academy and is an important part of the Academy experience. Our ‘Learning Hub’ has a wide range of resources, facilities and staff to support students on a daily basis. We offer extensive additional learning activities throughout the school day, including before school, at break times and during lunch time. Teaching Assistants are deployed to many lessons to support teaching staff in the delivery of the curriculum and to ensure that students with additional needs make progress. Learning Mentors also offer additional support and intervention when needed, specifically focused on English and Maths.
The Learning Support team has a wide range of expertise and skills. In addition to supporting students in their learning, the team encourages students to develop their social skills, to improve their confidence and to boost their self-esteem. The Learning Support team provides a variety of workshops focused specifically to help students with additional needs to take a full part in Academy life despite the challenges or barriers they may face. Anna Mayer is the designated SENCO.
Children who are identified with additional needs are given individual support in order to ensure that they can fully access the curriculum and make good progress during their time at the Academy. Any student who joins the Academy with a Statement of Special Educational Needs will be fully supported in line with the guidance from the Statement, with close parental communication, as appropriate.
