Nationally, unauthorised absence rates have increased across secondary schools since last year. This is due to increased levels of unauthorised family holidays and other unauthorised absence. Staffordshire County Council have recently outlined new tighter guidelines for schools in Staffordshire in regard to unauthorised absence and lateness. A copy of the letter distributed to parents/carers in December 2017 can be obtained from Reception.
Holidays during school term time will NOT usually be authorised in line with government guidelines and will only be authorised by the Principal in extreme circumstances. Family holidays and leave should be arranged outside of school term time.
Any unauthorised absence may result in an immediate penalty notice and possible fine per parent per child from Staffordshire County Council.
Should you encounter any issues or concerns in relation to your child’s attendance, please contact Reception or make a note in your child’s planner and the relevant person will be sought to help you. If your child has a concern that is preventing them from being happy in school, they can speak to any member of staff including their House Principal, Tutor, Teacher, a member of the Student Support Team or our Attendance and Engagement Manager.
